CERT Solutions are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist secondary school in Erdington to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Design & Technology Teacher with a strong background in woodwork.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and compassionate teacher who is passionate about practical learning and making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, hands-on Design & Technology lessons, with a particular focus on woodwork, helping students develop practical skills, confidence and independence.
About the School
The school provides specialist secondary education for pupils aged 11 to 19 years with a range of additional learning needs, including:
- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or are currently in the process of receiving one. The Role
As the SEN Design & Technology Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering practical, engaging lessons that inspire students while adapting learning to meet a wide range of individual needs. Your teaching will primarily focus on woodwork, enabling students to develop valuable practical, vocational and life skills in a safe and supportive workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging Design & Technology lessons with a strong emphasis on woodwork.
- Differentiate teaching to meet the individual needs and abilities of students with SEN.
- Create a positive, structured and inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported to succeed.
- Maintain a safe and organised workshop, ensuring all health and safety procedures are adhered to.
- Assess, monitor and report on student progress in line with school policies.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, parents and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Encourage creativity, resilience, independence and confidence through practical learning experiences.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a teacher who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Has experience teaching Design & Technology, ideally with a specialism in woodwork.
- Has experience working with students with Special Educational Needs or has a strong desire to develop within an SEN setting.
- Is patient, adaptable and passionate about helping every student achieve their potential.
- Has excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Is committed to delivering engaging, practical lessons that build confidence and independence.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
