CERT Solutions are working in partnership with a large secondary school based North East of Birmingham, who need a head of year to cover full time for the next month. The desired candidate must have previous experience working within secondary as a head of year.

About the role

The role is a temporary position as its covering an absent member of staff. The Head of Year is responsible for the pastoral care, behaviour, attendance, and academic progress of students in a specific year group (e.g. Year 9).

  • Support students’ emotional, social, and behavioural development
  • Handle serious behaviour issues and safeguarding concerns
  • Work with counsellors, SEN staff, and external agencies
  • Monitor behaviour and attendance across the year group
  • Meet with students and parents when issues arise
  • Track progress and achievement of the year group
  • Support underperforming students
  • Work with subject teachers to raise standards
  • Lead year group assemblies
  • Manage form tutors for the year group
  • Communicate regularly with parents/carers
  • Act as the main point of contact for year-group issue

A Bit about the school:

The school is a large secondary based in the North East side of Birmingham. They are rated Good by Ofsted and have great transport links as well as onsite parking.

Pay:

Paid to scale MPS1 – UPS3 (£162 – £251 per day PAYE) depending on your current pay grade

Requirements:

  • A recognized teaching qualification (Bachelor’s in Education, PGCE, or QTS or QTLS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a drive to continually improve teaching practices.
  • Relevant teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school setting.
