CERT Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Handsworth. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring, resilient and experienced individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.
The successful candidate will have previous experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with complex needs and challenging behaviour. You will need to be confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping them to access learning while also promoting their emotional wellbeing, independence and development.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs, particularly complex needs
- Providing positive and consistent support to pupils who may display challenging behaviour
- Working closely with teaching staff and other professionals to support individual pupil needs
- Helping pupils access learning and participate fully in school life
- Supporting pupils with their social, emotional and behavioural development
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Following individual support plans and behaviour strategies
- Promoting independence, confidence and positive behaviour
- Maintaining a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Has experience supporting pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour
- Is patient, calm, resilient and compassionate
- Can remain consistent and professional when managing challenging situations
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Can work effectively as part of a wider school team
- Holds a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 child, education, care or SEN-related qualification
Previous experience within a specialist school, SEN setting, residential care, youth work or similar environment would be highly advantageous.
