A SEN Teacher is a qualified teacher who works with children and young people who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn compared to most children of the same age. These needs can include physical disabilities, sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, emotional and behavioral challenges, or neurodivergent conditions such as autism or ADHD.

Key Responsibilities of a SEN Teacher:

  • Assessing students’ needs and developing personalised plans

  • Delivering tailored lessons that support diverse learning styles and abilities.

  • Working closely with other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists.

  • Supporting classroom inclusion or working in special schools, resource bases, or one-on-one.

  • Monitoring progress and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly.

  • Engaging with families and caregivers to ensure a consistent approach between school and home.

Skills and Qualities:

  • Empathy and patience

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Adaptability and creativity in teaching

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Deep understanding of various special educational needs

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

All rates are inclusive of holiday pay.
