Description
We are currently working with a specialist secondary provision in South Birmingham that supports pupils aged 9 to 16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a highly structured and supportive environment for students who require alternative approaches to learning and behaviour management.
We are looking to appoint an experienced and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team on a long-term basis from September.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH and associated behavioural needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Helping pupils engage in learning, manage emotions, and develop social skills
- Promoting positive behaviour through consistent boundaries and emotional regulation strategies
- Assisting with daily routines and classroom management under the direction of the class teacher
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- A calm, confident and proactive approach to behaviour management
- Strong resilience and excellent communication skills
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice and de-escalation techniques
- An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
