Description
CERT Solutions are searching for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a lovely two form entry mainstream primary school in Aston, working within their specialist resource base for children with Autism (ASC). This is a long-term opportunity starting as soon as possible, ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs to thrive both academically and emotionally.
You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to support pupils with Autism, helping them to access the curriculum and develop independence, communication, and social skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with Autism within the resource base
- Support pupils with communication, sensory regulation, behaviour, and emotional needs
- Assist with the delivery of individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets
- Implement strategies recommended by external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists, occupational therapists)
- Support inclusion opportunities within mainstream classes where appropriate
- Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and SENCO
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent childcare qualification)
- Proven experience working with children with Autism (ASC)
- Experience working in a resource base, SEN school, or specialist setting
- Strong understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive practice
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting children with complex needs or sensory processing difficulties
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication strategies
- Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
- Team Teach or positive behaviour support training
