Description
A welcoming primary school in Shard End, Birmingham is seeking an experienced and committed Family Support Worker to join their team through a supply agency. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about supporting children and families and has a strong understanding of safeguarding within an educational setting.
The Role
As a Family Support Worker, you will work closely with pupils, parents/carers, school staff and external agencies to provide targeted support to families and help remove barriers to children’s learning, attendance, wellbeing and development.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing effective support to children and families experiencing a range of challenges.
- Working closely with parents/carers to improve engagement, attendance and outcomes.
- Identifying concerns and providing appropriate early intervention and support.
- Working collaboratively with school staff and external agencies.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records of family support interventions.
- Contributing to safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Supporting vulnerable pupils and families in a sensitive and professional manner.
- Making referrals and liaising with relevant professionals where appropriate.
- Promoting positive relationships between families and the school community.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate must have previous experience as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) or equivalent senior safeguarding experience within a school or educational setting.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience working with children, families and/or vulnerable pupils.
- At least previous DDSL experience, with a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policies and procedures.
- Experience working with parents/carers and external agencies.
- Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
- A proactive, resilient and solution-focused approach.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and families
