CERT Solutions are working with an education group based in Dudley who specialise in teaching post 16 students. They are looking to appoint a mentor/academic coach who can work full time. There will be an opportunity to go perm and also an opportunity to gain valuable training/teacher training if desired.
The Role
As an Academic Mentor, you won’t just teach—you will transform lives. You will work closely with learners who face barriers to education, including neurodiversity (SEND), mental health challenges, or previous negative experiences in mainstream schooling.
By providing targeted 1-to-1 support and leading small group interventions, you will help students build the confidence, academic skills, and emotional resilience they need to succeed in their vocational courses.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver targeted academic interventions to help learners catch up, stay on track, and excel in their coursework.
  • Support Functional Skills development, coaching students to improve their English and Maths abilities.
  • Remove barriers to learning by providing tailored pastoral and academic support to students with SEND or SEMH needs.
  • Mentor and motivate learners, helping them develop vital life skills, independent study habits, and time management.
  • Track and review progress in partnership with vocational tutors to ensure no student is left behind.

About You
  • A natural motivator: You can build quick, trusting relationships with young people (ages 16–19) from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experienced in education/coaching: You have a background in academic mentoring, learning support, teaching assistant roles, or youth work.
  • Patient and empathetic: You understand that every student learns differently and you adapt your style to meet their needs.
  • Core skills proficient: Strong literacy and numeracy skills to confidently support GCSE / Functional Skills delivery.
  • Passionate about youth development: You believe in the power of alternative education and sport to inspire change.
