Description
We are looking for an experienced and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to work with KS4 pupils at a supportive alternative provision in Quinton. This is a full-time, long-term position, ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The Role:
The pupils require consistent structure, clear boundaries, and a calm, patient approach. They may struggle to remain in class for long periods and occasionally show signs of dysregulation or heightened behaviour. Your role will involve:
- Providing 1:1 support in class and during movement breaks
- Supporting with de-escalation strategies and encouraging positive behaviour
- Assisting with engagement in a vocational and functional curriculum
- Building a trusting relationship to promote emotional wellbeing and academic focus
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral team
About You:
- Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Youth Work, or similar
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ADHD or behavioural needs
- Able to remain calm under pressure and use de-escalation strategies effectively
- Confident working with KS4 pupils, particularly those disengaged from mainstream education
- Committed to full-time hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm)
