CERT Solutions are looking for staff to help support on a daily basis within our secondary cover team. A Secondary School Supply Teacher provides short-term or occasional teaching cover in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. They ensure continuity of learning by delivering pre-planned lessons, managing classroom behaviour, and supporting pupils’ progress across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and sometimes Post-16 depending on the school).

Specific areas that we get a lot of daily cover request from are:

West Midlands – Kidderminster, Stourbridge, Halesowen, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Rubery, Edgbaston, Birmingham City Centre, Handsworth, Aston, Erdington, Solihull

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Pre-Prepared Lessons: Teach lessons left by the class teacher, ensuring learning objectives are met.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, positive, and orderly classroom environment in line with school behaviour policies.
  • Adaptability: Teach across a range of subjects depending on expertise and school needs; confidently manage unfamiliar classes and curriculum areas.
  • Support Student Learning: Assist students with tasks during lessons and provide clarification where needed.
  • Professional Conduct: Arrive prepared, follow school safeguarding procedures, and uphold professional standards.
  • Record Keeping: Mark work where required, provide feedback to the regular class teacher, and complete any necessary cover reports.
  • Supervision Duties: Occasionally supervise other classes, form groups, or cover non-teaching periods when required.
  • Safeguarding & Welfare: Follow safeguarding policies and report concerns promptly, ensuring the well-being of pupils.

Pay:

QTS Teachers receive between £160 to £210 per day for general cover via PAYE

Qualifications

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) preferred, though many schools accept unqualified teachers or cover supervisors depending on role
  • Experience working with secondary-aged students
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
