We are recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join the committed team at a specialist provision, known for its outstanding work with pupils across the primary and secondary age range whose primary need is Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).

Based at a school near Marsh Hill, Birmingham (B23), you will be working with students who have ASC and associated communication, interaction, and complex learning difficulties.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Specialist 1:1 and Group Support: Providing targeted help to pupils, often focusing on communication and sensory regulation.
  • Implementing Visual & Structured Strategies: Utilising visual timetables, social stories, and low-arousal techniques to create a predictable and calm learning environment.
  • Fostering Communication: Supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) alongside other specialist staff.
  • Positive Behaviour Support: Applying effective, proactive strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.
  • Enrichment Support: Assisting pupils during sensory circuit sessions, food technology, and community visits.

Key Requirements

To be the right fit for this specialist setting, you must have:

  • Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent, relevant childcare/education qualification).
  • Proven experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Knowledge of communication aids or structured teaching approaches (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Makaton) is highly advantageous.
  • A calm, patient, and highly resilient character with a genuine passion for SEN.
  • A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
